Lori Loughlin, Mossimo Giannulli plead not guilty in college bribery scandal

The judge must approve their request not to appear to formally enter their pleas.

Loughlin and Giannulli are charged with paying $500,000 in bribes to get their daughters admitted to the University of Southern California as crew recruits, even though neither is a rower.

And on Monday, the embattled couple pled not guilty to charges of conspiring to commit fraud and money laundering in alleged connection to the massive college bribery scheme.

Thirty-three wealthy parents were charged in what authorities have called the biggest college admissions case ever prosecuted by the Justice Department.

A new superseding indictment unsealed last Tuesday alleges that Loughlin, 54, and Giannulli, 55, disguised their bribes to the ringleader of the scam as donations to fund programs for "disadvantaged youth". Series star Erin Krakow took to social media to announce When Calls The Heart will be returning to Hallmark next year for Season 7.

Federal agents obtained emails from Loughlin and a recorded conversation in which Loughlin and Giannulli implicated themselves in the scam, according to the documents.

Manny Medrano, a defense attorney and former federal prosecutor, said that based on 2019 federal sentencing guidelines, Huffman likely will face four to 10 months in prison as part of her plea.

Huffman - famous for her Academy Award-nominated role in "Transamerica" and the television show "Desperate Housewives" - allegedly gave $15,000 to Singer "to participate in the college entrance exam cheating scheme on behalf of their oldest daughter", court documents allege.

The source goes on to emphasize that Lori didn't understand how serious her actions were.

The actress Felicity Huffman was among 13 parents who pleaded guilty to a charge of conspiracy to commit fraud last week. Loughlin and Giannulli reportedly were slapped with an additional charge of money laundering after rejecting a plea deal.

Gather round, children, because I have an update on everyone's favorite college admissions scandal, aka "Operation Varsity Blues."
