Liam Neeson has cancelled an appearance on a United States talk show as controversy over his rape revenge comments continues.
Liam made the astonishing admission during an interview about his latest film about a father's quest for revenge against a drug baron after his son is killed.
The red carpet aspect of the film's premiere was cancelled last night in New York City, hours after he appeared on Good Morning America in a bid to clarify his remarks.
Despite Liam immediately admitting he was ashamed of how he'd felt at the time in his interview with The Independent, the Taken star has faced severe backlash for his comments. What colour were they? And she handled the situation, herself and the rapist, incredibly bravely, I have to say that.
Neeson said in an interview published Monday (Tuesday AEDT) by The Independent that after learning his friend's attacker was black, he "went up and down areas with a cosh (stick or truncheon)" hoping a black person "would come out of a pub and have a go at me about something, you know?"
Crews later responded to his critics and cleared the air, "I'm not defending him at all. It's terrible. But I did learn a lesson from it".
He said: "There's something primal - God forbid you've ever had a member of your family hurt under criminal conditions".
A lot of his peers in Hollywood are coming to his defense including Terry Crew, and Liam Neeson even adamantly stated that he is not a racist.
"I did it for say, maybe four or five times until I caught myself and it really shocked me, this primal urge".
This comes after Neeson came under fire earlier this week, when he detailed a story about wanting to seek revenge on a black man, after a female loved one alleged she was raped. And at the time, even though this was almost 40 years ago, I didn't think about that.
He also said he had a "primal urge to lash out" before he was shocked by his reaction and sought help from a priest and friends. I am not racist. Neeson revealed that he once was hoping to kill some "black bastard" after a friend was brutally raped over 40 years ago.
Got a story tip?
However, after many an attempt to justify what he meant, which didn't really come out right, celebrity pals have rallied around the star to try and set the record straight.
