The service though at least initially, doesn't offer as much variety or the latest content that Amazon Prime subscribers get, so anyone who subscribes to Amazon and is perhaps feeling ripped off by the news, need not feel that way as this service will focus mostly on older, classic movies and TV shows for now. Popular IMDb original video series, including The IMDb Show, Casting Calls and No Small Parts, are available to stream on IMDb Freedive now. The rumor wasn't made official at the time, but IMDb has laid the matter to rest today with its announcement of Freedive, a free video streaming service that can be accessed on Fire TV and computers.
IMDb Freedive also includes a feature X-RAY, powered by IMDb search that brings information about the cast, music, crew, etc.
"Customers already rely on IMDb to discover movies and TV shows and decide what to watch", said Col Needham, Founder and CEO of IMDb.
The Amazon-owned movie database site has launched IMDb Freedive (imdb.com/freedive), a free streaming video channel available in the U.S. IMDb declined to say how many titles are initially available; the site now lists over 130 movies and 29 TV shows to stream for free. "We will continue to enhance IMDb Freedive based on customer feedback and will soon make it available more widely, including on IMDb's leading mobile apps".
It'll be available via your computer, but also through Amazon's Fire TV devices. Freedive is free, but its offering of full-length movies and TV shows does come with ads.
IMDb Freedive is ad-supported, making it free to access but with the downside of advertisements. The site says it will continually add new offerings to the site.
