Murray's Australian Open bid dealt a blow after match against Djokovic

Long-time rival and six-time Australian Open champion Djokovic offered to share a court with him, but Murray called time after less than an hour with his movement around the baseline appearing restricted.

A highlight first-round clash will see Australia's unseeded Nick Kyrgios up against Canada's big-serving 16th seed Milos Raonic, with the victor facing either Stan Wawrinka or Ernests Gulbis.

The draw for the first grand slam of the year took place on Thursday, where the likes of Federer, Djokovic and Rafael Nadal all learned what their potential path to the trophy would look like.

Serbia's Novak Djokovic will begin his bid for a seventh title against a qualifier and could go on to meet Canada's Denis Shapovalov (25) in the third round, Russia's Daniil Medvedev (15) in the round of 16 and Japan's Kei Nishikori (9) in the quarter-finals.

An exchange followed, with Murray even offering to sort her out a ticket for his first-round match against Roberto Bautista Agut.

Those two, and seventh seed Dominic Thiem, are in the same quarter as Alexander Zverev, who could meet Djokovic in the semi-finals but must first plot his way past Aljaz Bedene in the opening round.

World number one Djokovic, who produced a strong comeback past year, was the top seed of men's singles.

On the women's side, all eyes will be on Serena Williams as she aims for Grand Slam number 24.

Three-time major victor Murray is on the comeback trail after missing 11 months with a hip injury which has seen him slump to 230 in the world.

"I can't believe it's been a year already", Dane Wozniacki said at the draw ceremony.

This will be the first time the players will face each other.
