Get a Burger King Whopper for only a penny

Burger King says the app uses the Global Positioning System technology "geofencing" to determine if you are within range of a McDonald's.

Business Insider reports that the Burger King app will recognize the user's location as being at a McDonalds and unlock the penny deal.

Funny: The app will then redirect the customer to the nearest Burger King. The Whopper house has offered fans a very very special deal on their burgers but they can only retrieve it when they are within at least 600 ft from a McDonald's, really.

Others said that Burger King's promotion backfired and they ended up eating in McDonald's. The WHOPPER ® Detour promotion can be redeemed one time only, from December 4th until December 12th, at participating BURGER KING ® restaurants nationwide.

Recently, the fast food chain announced a new promotion to encourage people to use their mobile app.

Once within 600 feet of a McDonald's, a deal will unlock on the mobile app that qualifies customers for a $.01 Whopper.

The Wendy's Twitter account is most notorious for targeting competitors through its tweets.

No, you won't actually buy the burger at a McDonald's.
