Virat Kohli Plays a Deadly Bouncer from Mohammed Shami

India will pick their side for the first test against Australia, which begins in Adelaide on Thursday, from the following 12 players, BCCI said on Wednesday.Team - Virat Kohli (captain), Murali Vijay, Lokesh Rahul, Cheteshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane, Hanuma Vihari, Rohit Sharma, Rishabh Pant, Ravichandran Ashwin, Mohammed Shami, Ishant Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah.

Captain Tim Paine said Marsh's omission was due to a lack of consistency and he would benefit from returning to Sheffield Shield cricket to find form again.

"We're pretty sure Marcus Harris will make his debut, which is very exciting for him", he said.

"We're taking an opportunity to send him back to Shield cricket. knowing at some stage we're probably going to need him".

Under the captaincy of Virat Kohli, this is India's best chance of winning their maiden Test series Down Under especially in the absence of David Warner and Steve Smith.

Marnus Labuschagne has also been left out, with Victoria opener Marcus Harris coming in for him.

Khawaja, who is returning after ankle surgery, was not seen in the nets on Wednesday after his family crisis, although he is known to only take on a light workload the day before a Test.

Tarvis Head and Shaun Marsh will anchor the middle-order. We've obviously got a lot of confidence in Nathan Lyon bowling a lot of overs if we need to.

"All our three quicks go in really fresh so we've got confidence in them, particularly at the start of the series. It's probably unlikely that we'll use the three quicks as much as we will in this game, throughout the whole series as it wears on - but this being the first Test we think they'll do the job".

Given the hot weather, Paine admitted he will bat first if he wins the toss.

Despite the fact that India has only won five Tests in Australia, the composition of both sides means that it promises to be a cracking series.

Australia have dropped vice-captain Mitch Marsh for the first Test against India in Adelaide, recalling Peter Handscomb in place of the oft-maligned allrounder. "They'll also be under great pressure, I think".
