It may be recalled that there were rumors surrounding upgraded Airpods being planned for this year but it never got released during the Apple launches scheduled for this year. In addition, the company may also release an upgraded version of the AirPods themselves with the special case in the box along with some internal and Bluetooth upgrades. There has also been some speculation claiming that an entirely new AirPods model due next year will introduce features such as water resistance and noise cancelation.
German-language site MacPrime reported previous year that a wireless AirPod charging case was in the works that would pair with Apple's AirPower wireless charging mat. Speculation initially indicated that the new AirPods were set to launch this fall, but the earbuds never appeared on stage at Apple's most recent hardware event.
A Bluetooth 5.0 connectivity means that the AirPods 2 would have dual audio support, enabling users to stream audio from two different devices at once using a single pair of AirPods. At the earliest, the updated AirPods are expected to arrive during 2019 and will boast better features.
It sounds like there won't be next-generation Apple AirPods during the holiday shopping season.
The latest analyst report from Ming-Chi Kuo comes weeks after Apple updated a trademark filing in Hong Kong and Europe that referenced its wireless earbuds. The ASP of the hinge of the new charging box will rise by 60-80% because of spec upgrades for appearance design changes and higher thermal requirements.
