Jarryd Hayne released on bail after being charged with sexual assault

Jarryd Hayne of the Eels looks on during the round 19 NRL match between the Parramatta Eels and the Canterbury Bulldogs at ANZ Stadium on July 19, 2018 in Sydney, Australia.

The pair allegedly had sex at the location and the woman claims she suffered injuries during the encounter.

Hayne was later at the Ryde Police Station on Monday afternoon to speak to detectives from the NSW Sex Crimes squad.

It's understood the uncontracted 30-year-old was placed under arrest after previously turning himself into police for an interview regarding an alleged sexual assault on September 30.

He is yet to comment on the latest allegations, and his family on the NSW Central Coast told 9 News "there'll be no comment".

The former Parramatta Eels player and now free agent presented for questioning at a police station after the complaint was made against him.

Hayne, a two-time Dally M Medallist, is one of the biggest names in the NRL and had a magical run to help the Eels to the 2009 grand final.

While Hayne remains in custody this evening, it is unclear when charges will be laid.

The code-hopper - who returned home in 2016 after an unsuccessful tilt at America's National Football League - already faces a civil lawsuit in the USA over allegations of non-consensual intercourse with a woman in 2015. He signed with the San Francisco 49ers in 2015 but didn't get much playing time on the field, as he accumulated just 79 offensive yards on 23 touches with three fumbles in eight games for the Niners.

The Australian Rugby League star has been arrested and charged with a sexual assault in the Australian state of New South Wales, and faces up to 20 years in prison.
