As US President Donald Trump answered questions from the press following his speech about Wednesday's midterm results, his turbulent relationship with some media outlets was evident.
After asking his follow-up question, the staff member takes the microphone off Acosta and hands it to the next journalist.
Video footage and photographs showed the intern grazing Acosta's arm in trying to pry the microphone away, and briefly making contact with the hand holding the microphone.
The end result: The White House made a decision to revoke Acosta's press clearance.
Reacting to Sanders' statement Wednesday, Acosta said: "This is a lie".
The same day that President Trump labeled CNN reporter Jim Acosta "a rude, awful person", singer John Legend issued a sharp condemnation about the president himself. Reporters should challenge the powerful, but the picture of an older male reporter making a younger female staffer uncomfortable wasn't pretty, especially when Acosta's only goal was to showboat for the cameras.
Acosta told Trump that he disagreed with the president characterizing the migrant caravan heading through Mexico the United States as "an invasion".
Trump, however, tried to cut the journalist short before ultimately responding, "CNN should be ashamed of itself having you work for them". The way you treat [White House press secretary] Sarah Huckabee [Sanders] and other people is terrible.
"They are not only unsafe, they are disturbingly un-American", CNN said. "The US Secret Service just asked for my credential to enter the WH". Trump lingered from his podium a few steps before returning to give Acosta an old-fashioned tongue-lashing.
Trump then becomes enraged - barking "that's enough" repeatedly and flat out refusing to answer the question on Russian Federation.
"A free press is vital to democracy, and we stand behind Jim Acosta and his fellow journalists everywhere".
"I've never seen anything like it", Wallace said. "But they have to come in legally".
"To say that, what you said, is so insulting to me", he said. It is also completely disrespectful to the reporter's colleagues not to allow them an opportunity to ask a question", she said on "Trish Regan Primetime.
Meghan McCain was also distraught at the discourse on display, posting, "I got 4 hours of sleep last night and can't emotionally deal with Trump's presser right now". "That's enough. Put down the mic", Trump said.
"They can play that game, but we can play it better", he said.
