The Wall Street Journal also reports that some people believe Amazon may announce plans to place smaller operations in runner-up locations.
While nothing is set in stone, Amazon seems to be furthest along in the selection process with Crystal City-up to the point of scouting out potential real estate locations in the city and discussing how long it would take to move in a first wave of employees.
With just weeks left until its self-imposed deadline of year-end, Amazon is close to selecting two different cities for additional North American headquarters. Amazon is already familiar with Northern Virginia as it has data centers nearby in Ashburn, Sterling, Chantilly, Manassas and Haymarket. Although talks are still advancing with representatives in NY and Dallas, this could be to prime a backup location in case Crystal City falls through.
Amazon Director of Economic Development- Global Public Policy Mike Grella tweeted that whomever leaked word of the Amazon interest in Crystal City, VA.as its new home is "not doing Crystal City, VA. any favors".
