Being subsumed by a sentient caramel has some downsides (strained relationship with ex-wife Michelle Williams, having Riz Ahmed as our enemy, harder to brush teeth), but one fun perk of humanity being overtaken by alien parasites is Venom achieving the biggest October opening of all time. Venom marks the first attempt by Sony to build a comic-book universe of their own by using supporting characters of the Spiderverse whose rights Sony owns. Internationally Venom raked in over $125 million making Venom's total box office gain $205,230,000 after only 3 days! Despite mostly negative critical reviews, audiences are showing up for Venom, and they're liking what they see.
"A box office star is born as October sings a glorious tune the likes of which the industry has never heard before for the oft overlooked month, as a ideal harmony of superhero blockbuster and Oscar bound musical create one of the most perfectly orchestrated movie weekends at the multiplex in recent memory", he added.
A Star is Born is in theaters now.
Venom has already received an "88% liked it" rating on Rotten Tomatoes, getting ahead of "A Star Is Born" which has earned 84% rating on the website. Starring Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper, it is directed by Cooper. The consensus goes, "With appealing leads, deft direction, and an affecting love story, A Star Is Born is a remake done right - and a reminder that some stories can be just as effective in the retelling".
