Apparently, the birds are getting boozed up from berries that fermented earlier than usual due to an early frost.
"The Gilbert Police Department has received several reports of birds that appear to be "under the influence" flying into windows, cars and acting confused", Gilbert Police Chief Ty Techar wrote in a statement that both acknowledged the odd happenings and poked fun at them.
A small community in Northern Minnesota has been phoning in some unusual calls to local police with concerns about birds that seem to be intoxicated.
Gilbert Police Department in Minnesota has urged residents to be careful after numerous locals had close encounters with the tipsy animals. Berry fermentation is the answer.
"Oh my! That explains all the birds bouncing off my window lately", said one resident.
Younger birds can not handle the toxins as well as older birds, local police chief Ty Techar said in a statement.
How does a bird get drunk?
The "public notice" even goes the extra mile by adding a humorous list of sightings that the public should be on the lookout for, including "Woodstock pushing Snoopy off the doghouse for no apparent reason", and "Any birds after midnight with Taco Bell items".
The Gilbert Police Department post said the birds will likely sober up soon after the fermented berries are eaten and asked locals not to call unless they see "Angry Birds laughing and giggling uncontrollably and appearing to be happy" or "Tweety acting as if 10 feet tall and getting into confrontations with cats".
Authorities expect they will sober up some time in the near future.
