Bill Cosby, now inmate NN7687, placed in single cell

Cosby spent the night in one of the 3,830 beds at the 164-acre maximum security prison. He will be allowed phone calls and visitation in accordance with policy, as well as opportunity to exercise during the classification process.

Yes, precautions are being taken to ensure the his "safety and general welfare in our institution", the officials claim, but they make it crystal clear he won't get the star treatment. He will soon be integrated into the general population area of the prison where he will receive "the programming required during his incarceration", after a series of evaluations.

William Henry "Bill" Cosby needs no introduction.

The judge said he recognized the defendant's age and blindness, but said they could not be the determining factors.

In a failed, last-ditch bid to keep Cosby free on bail pending his appeal, his lawyers on Tuesday accused prosecutors of playing a doctored tape for the jury.

Earlier on Tuesday, the judge designated Cosby a "sexually violent predator", which will force him to register with police for the rest of his life and to submit to mandatory counselling. A judge sentenced the 81-year-old to three to 10 years in prison Tuesday for drugging and sexually assaulting Andrea Constand at his home almost 15 years ago.

Cosby's publicist said afterward that a forensic expert found that a tape Constand's mother made of a 2005 telephone call with Cosby had been manipulated in two places and was "not an authentic recording".

Cosby's first trial past year ended in a mistrial when jurors could not reach a unanimous verdict. After Cosby's sentence was handed down, Feden said she asked Constand if she was happy with the outcome.

The verdict is surely felt by the more than 50 women who have accused the once-beloved comedian of sexual abuse.

"This has been the most racist and sexist trial in the history of the United States", Cosby's spokesman Andrew Wyatt told the press after the sentencing. "Not saying Mr. Cosby is Jesus, but we know what the country has done to black men for centuries".

Cosby wasn't the only person to have laughed in the courtroom during his sentencing.

According to Radar, Cosby communicated that he feels "under siege" and is begging his wife of 54 years, Camille, 74, to do whatever she can to get him out as soon as possible.

As part of the sentence, the judge also ordered him to pay a fine of $25,000 plus the costs of prosecution.

Steele said Cosby may end up in SCI Laurel Highlands, which is a state prison housing lower-risk inmates. Prosecutors in the Cosby case originally wanted 19 women to testify, but an appeals court could have seen that as too many.

Meridian advocates of sexual assault victims followed Cosby's case and his conviction closely.
