The first playoff event at the Northern Trust will feature 125 players with a cut down to the top 70 for the BMW Championship.

Next year, the points leader going into the Tour Championship will start with a 10-under-par score, while the next four players will start at eight-under through five-under, respectively. The second-place player will be 8-under, third 7-under, fourth 6-under and fifth 5-under. The next five will begin at 4 under, regressing by one stroke per five players until those ranked Nos. 26-30 at even par. "It's going to be interesting", said reigning FedExCup champion Justin Thomas, now No. 5 in the standings.

The top 10 players throughout the regular season will divvy up the $10 million pot with the No. 1 player taking home a $2 million check down to the No. 10 receiving $500,000. Additionally, each player in the top 10 will be invited into Wyndham Rewards at its most exclusive Diamond level, unlocking all the travel perks and unique Wyndham benefits that go along with it. Under next season's system, Horschel would start the Tour Championship five shots behind Bryson DeChambeau, noting that East Lake is a hard course, so making up a big deficit will be very tough.
Following The Open at Royal Portrush in July - the last major, because the PGA Championship is moving to May - the schedule heads to the WGC-FedEx St. Jude in Memphis, followed by the season-ending Wyndham Championship. He's our season-long champion.
