Virgil Van Dijk included in FIFPro World XI shortlist

World champion France had eight players, one less than former holder Spain, in worldwide players' association FIFPro's 55-name shortlist for its World XI of 2018 award. All three now share the record among defenders.

Manchester United also have four, with David de Gea and Romelu Lukaku being joined by the midfield pair of Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic.

After beating nerves to help Egypt secure a ticket to participate at the World Cup finals for the first time in 28 years, Salah's unfortunate shoulder injury, picked in Liverpool's UCL final loss against Real Madrid, prevented him from influencing the Pharaohs' run in Russian Federation, but he ended up with two goals.

Mane, a Senegalese player, has been a regular inclusion for Liverpool in the last season when they reached the final of Champion Leagues and lost to Real Madrid.

However, United's Alexis Sanchez lost his place on the list following a tricky debut season at Old Trafford, with former striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic, now of LA Galaxy, also dropping out.

Chelsea only have two contenders with World Cup victor N'Golo Kante and Eden Hazard nominated following their below-par Premier League season which saw them finish fifth.

Barça have Ter Stegen, Yerry Mina (now at Everton), Piqué, Umtiti, Alba, Busquets, Iniesta, Rakitic, Messi, Suárez and Coutinho on the list. Their captain appeared in all three games and scored once.

Cristiano Ronaldo is also nominated for firing Real Madrid to a third consecutive Champions League, prior to joining the Old Lady over the summer. Messi, Neymar and Ronaldo were eventually named the attackers in last year's World XI. Ten of last year's world 11 are on the list excluding Juventus player, Bonucci who couldn't make it to the list.
