Focusing on the origin of Superman in the DCEU's inaugural film, Man of Steel had Cavill portray the fledgling superhero as he came to terms with his Kryptonian heritage, all as it collides with the entire planet in the form of a murderously zealous General Zod.
After a report that Henry Cavill will no longer be playing the role of Superman in the DC Extended Universe, a new report from Deadline indicates that Warner Bros.is looking at Michael B. Jordan to take on the Man of Steel in the future.
Cavill, the British actor who has played Superman in three critically underwhelming films since 2013, will surrender the red-and-blue costume, the Hollywood Reporter was the first to report Wednesday, while noting that neither Cavill nor the studio had confirmed the exit.
What do you think will happen with Henry Cavill and Superman?
Dany Garcia, whose company The Garcia Companies manages Cavill, disputes the news saying fans can expect an official update from Warner Bros. today.
But should DC be tabling Superman for a while to focus on Supergirl, that would show that the critical acclaim and box office gold that made Wonder Woman one of the top films of 2017 made a big impact at DC and Warner Bros. "This effectively removes an actor of Cavill's age from the storyline's equation given that Superman, aka Kal-El, would be an infant, according to DC lore". Rumors about such a move swirled last week when it was announced that Cavill would be starring in Netflix's video-game adaptation The Witcher, and it does indeed appear that scheduling conflicts may have been the initial root of the problem.
"Superman is like James Bond, and after a certain run you have to look at new actors", a studio source told The Hollywood Reporter. However, I don't think DC Films and Warner Bros. will want to count their chickens before they hatch which they seemingly did with Justice League. Among the plans is a solo Supergirl movie rather than another Superman.
