Captain Marvel is directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck. Larson dons the iconic costume on the cover of the new issue of Entertainment Weekly, which was unveiled Wednesday. In 2012, she assumed the name Captain Marvel. The film will bridge the gaps between Infinity War and Infinity War 2 (or whatever it may be called) as Captain Marvel was teased by the former's after credits scene. "But what makes her special is just how human she is", explains Bowden.
Captain Marvel will debut in theaters on March 8, 2019. It's 2018 and we've already seen endless superhero origin stories (with Venom being criticized in some corners for retreading overly familiar narrative ground), so I'm sure we can pick up Danvers' past as we go. It's also confirmed that Ben Mendelsohn will portray Talos, who's the leader of the Skrull army that'll invade Earth. Among those joining the cast also include Jude Law, Gemma Chan and Annette Bening.
Captain Marvel will be Marvel's first female-led superhero film, and it sounds like the lead character is up to the task.
"This is not a superhero who's ideal or otherworldly or has some godlike connection", co-director Anna Boden told EW. "He's younger than we've ever seen him (Jackson was digitally de-aged for the role), and perhaps most shocking of all, he's missing his signature eyepatch".
"She can't help but be herself". However, the film, set in the mid-90s, will not follow Danvers' origin story and will begin after she acquires her powers - after meeting with the Kree alien named Mar-Vell.
The air-force-pilot-turned-intergalactic-hero is the latest entrant in the Marvel Cinematic Universe or the MCU as fans dub it. That Rambeau was originally introduced as Captain Marvel in the comics, but she's since become heroes like Pulsar, Spectrum, and - her callsign in Captain Marvel - Photon. Lee Pace returns as Ronan the Accuser, Djimon Hounsou returns as Korath, and Clark Gregg returns as Phil Coulson.
