Jose Mourinho lists second-place finish among 'greatest achievements'

The 2018/19 season gets under way with Manchester United taking on Leicester City at Old Trafford Friday.

Timothy Fosu-Mensah - a contender to play at centre half, but most probably at right back, considering United's options - has arrived at Premier League newcomers Fulham to agree a season long loan after spending previous year on loan at Selhurst Park.

A man now on the books of MLS side D.C. United said: "I am sure Jose (Mourinho) has been getting the team right".

Pushed on whether there would be any ins or outs on Thursday, Mourinho added: "The information I have is no (nothing will happen)".

Having previously managed Barcelona and Bayern Munich, Guardiola is used to high expectations.

The interior designers recruited into The Theatre of Dreams have obviously been more productive than chairman Ed Woodward this season in giving United a makeover, and the results are sure to make the rest of the Premier League green with envy, radiating class and sophistication.

"They returned on Monday", he said.

"They return on Monday, trained Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and today so you can imagine that they are not really fit and ready but we have needs", Mourinho said.

"Because it is very important how they feel and to understand how they think they can help or not help".

'My view is that first of all is hard for me to believe we finished second when I listen, when I read, not much but sometimes I do, is hard to believe that we finished second because you are capable of making people that finish second look like they were relegated, ' Mourinho said during today's press conference.

Manchester United have been hit by injuries throughout the pre-season tour of the United States and there are plenty of first-team stars that have only just returned from their holidays due to exploits in the World Cup this summer.

"When I listen, when I read - not much but sometimes I do - it is hard to believe that we finished second because you [the media] are capable of making people who finished second look like they were relegated and capable of making people who win nothing and finish below us look like serial winners".

"Is hard for me to understand, to feel, to believe we finish second".
