Transfer: Manchester United in talks to sign Chelsea defender

Everton had been seeking to sign a new centre-back on deadline day, with Mina their top target.

Jose Mourinho has made no secret of his frustration at United's transfer business this summer as Brazilian midfielder Fred has been the only significant addition so far with Lee Grant arriving as a third-choice goalkeeper while Diogo Dalot is a young full-back for the future.

However, it looks like their spending isn't over yet as they are looking to finalise a move to sign Rojo from United.

Representatives of the English club have been in close discussions with Barcelona of late to close out both operations and at the moment, only a few small details must fall into place for the moves to be completed.

Everton have been chasing the 23-year-old since his impressive World Cup exploits.

The Blues are also interested in agreeing a season-long loan deal for Barcelona's Andre Gomes, while the free transfer signing of Bernard is expected to be completed on Thursday afternoon. The Spanish champions also included a buy-back option in the deal.

Barcelona were willing to accept £30m for the player.

Rojo has been heavily linked with a move to Everton during the summer and manager Marco Silva could be about to land him on a dramatic deadline day for the club. The Toffees take on newcomers, Wolves, in their first match of the 2018-19 Premier League season on Saturday, 11th August.
