Mars Food Canada recalled select Uncle Ben's rice products in eastern Canada, including its Fast & Fancy Broccoli and Cheddar, and Country Chicken flavoured rice, after learning about a possible salmonella contamination. "Even though the animal is healthy, they are often carriers and don't get sick".
At last check, there were 11 cases reported in Florida and four cases reported in Georgia. The Swiss rolls were sold nationwide under the brand names Mrs. Freshley's, Food Lion, H-E-B, Baker's Treat, Market Square and Great Value.
Ritz Cracker Sandwich and other Ritz Bits products have been voluntarily recalled.
"As there are likely other food products made by other manufacturers that also use this common ingredient, there may be other recalls initiated in the coming days", the statement reads. They recalled Flavor Blasted Xtra Cheddar, Flavor Blasted Sour Cream and Onion, Goldfish Baked with Whole Grain Xtra Cheddar, and Goldfish Mix Xtra Cheddar + Pretzel.
All the crackers involved in the recall have a best if used by date of between January 14, 2019 and April 19, 2019. The recalled meals have an establishment number of "EST. P138" or "P-138" on the side of the carton. The product was shipped to retailers in Massachusetts, Pennsylvania and Virginia. The spokesperson said AMPI does not release the names of its customers and declined to say how much whey powder packaged in 50-pound bags and 25-kilogram bags involved in the recall had been distributed. "That's, in part, why we are taking steps to intervene early on this potential risk, and why we will be communicating regularly with the public to provide information and updates on this issue".
There have been no complaints of illness reported in connection with the affected products.
As of Friday, health officials say, 212 people have gotten sick, 34 of whom have been hospitalized, since illnesses started in February.
