Lyon president gives transfer update on Nabil Fekir's move to Liverpool

Fekir was reported to have travelled to Liverpool FC to undergo a medical, while the attacker even selected his shirt number at the Merseyside outfit.

While the FIFA World Cup has served to be a hindrance in a few transfers for Liverpool this summer, in Fekir's case, it might go on to be something that improves him as a player and should he get his move to Anfield, Jürgen Klopp will be reaping the rewards.

There are thought to be concerns over the player's long-term fitness despite that surgery and graft being a success, which was a major factor in the plug previously being pulled on the deal.

Fekir required surgery after suffering a cruciate ligament rupture in September 2015 and he needed a second operation on the same knee less than 12 months later. They are looking to shift midfielder Mateo Kovacic for £75 million; that is too much for Liverpool to consider.

But instead of ignoring the call, Fekir turned around to nod and smile at the supporter.

The Reds were close to signing the France global in a big-money deal from the Ligue 1 side in the current transfer market.

Lyon president Jean Michael Aulas has admitted Liverpool could yet still sign playmaker Nabil Fekir this summer, despite the collapse of a £53million move prior to the World Cup. "That is what I saw in the media, but I have not been informed", Aulas told French daily Le Progres. If a deal is to be agreed with Lyon, it will happen in the next couple of weeks before the close of the Premier League transfer window.

Liverpool fans predictably responded to Nabil Fekir's first tweet as a World Cup champion.

'Maybe he will go to Liverpool, or another club, but if he stays at Lyon, it will be a great year for him and for us'.
