The former Liverpool and Chelsea striker, who won the European Champions and the World Cup with Spain too, would have been perhaps the biggest signing in Rangers' recent history and his decision to go to Japan has left some fans genuinely disappointed, despite Torres never actually being linked with a move to Ibrox.
Torres finished his second spell at Atletico Madrid last season, playing 45 times in all competitions for his boyhood club.
"El Nino" ended a second spell with his beloved Atletico Madrid in the most ideal way by lifting his first meaningful trophy with the club and has now joined his former Spain teammate Andres Iniesta in making the move to Japan.
The Spaniard has enjoyed an illustrious 16 years in top-flight football, including spells at Liverpool, Chelsea and in the Serie A with AC Milan.
His contract expired at the end of the 2017-18 season and he will continue his career in Asia, following in the footsteps of Barcelona legend Iniesta.
Torres, 34, left boyhood club Atletico Madrid at the end of the season following the expiration of his contract and chose to depart Europe despite several offers to stay within the continent.
Fernando Torres ends speculation of his next club as he announces he'll be joining J-League side Sagan Tosu. They were one of the first clubs to show interest in me, and I appreciate their insistence and how they convinced me with their sporting, personal and cultural project.
"I think that Japan and the Japanese league is going to be a great experience".
Torres joins Sagan Tosu with the club in the bottom three after 15 games.
