Serena Williams raced into her 13th Wimbledon quarter-final as the seven-time champion thrashed Russian qualifier Evgeniya Rodina 6-2, 6-2 in just 62 minutes on Monday.
Evgeniya Rodina, another mother beaten by Williams yesterday, 6-2, 6-2, did the decent thing and said the American was her idol. Williams, herself, responded with a smile.
Williams, who won the Wimbledon title on her last two visits in 2015 and 2016, is now on an 18-match winning streak at the All England Club. The reprieve was only momentary for Hsieh, as Cibulkova regained her composure to break and take the first set 6-4.
After Pliskova's loss, the highest remaining seed in the women's singles is Angelina Kerber, who is seeded at No. 11.
'I'd love to have Trump come watch me, ' said No 9 seed Isner.
'I'm getting there. Yeah, I don't think I'm there yet. But also I've never been ranked where I am when this has happened before, so usually I'm one of those few seeds left that's still fighting and still in the tournament.
And she ensured there would not be another shock in Monday's contest on Centre Court, her seemingly unstoppable march to the final continuing with a 6-2, 6-2 triumph.
"There's a lot to improve on". "For me, there's so much farther I want to go to get back where I was - and hopefully go beyond that".
"I'm always striving for perfection".
Dominika Cibulkova faces Jelena Ostapenko, Daria Kasatkina battles Angelique Kerber, and Kiki Bertens plays Julia Goerges in the other quarterfinal clashes.
'I don't know, ' she said in her post-match press conference. "I could be a good mental coach". This is all I'm focusing on.
Both Anderson of South Africa and the 44th-ranked Monfils of France were bidding to reach the quarterfinals for the first time on their 10th appearance at the All England Club.
"I mean, I'm definitely going to have to look at it the right way".
Bertens, who was contemplating retirement past year after losing her enthusiasm for the sport, is the first Dutch woman to reach the Wimbledon quarter-finals since Michaella Krajicek in 2007.
Williams will play Camila Giorgi for a last-four berth after the Italian progressed to her maiden grand slam quarter-final with a 6-3 6-4 defeat of Ekaterina Makarova.
