Lando's Back! Billy Dee Williams Reportedly Will Reprise Iconic 'Star Wars' Role

Star Wars 9 is about to get another dose of the Original Trilogy as everyone's favourite cape-wearing betrayer, Lando Calrissian, is back for the first time on-screen in over 35 years since 1983's Return of the Jedi.

Well, the rumor had been circulating for some time, but tonight the Hollywood Reporter made official: Billy Dee Williams will return as Lando Calrissian for JJ Abrams' Star Wars: Episode IX.

Donald Glover has yet to comment on whether or not his work in Solo: A Star Wars Story is directly responsible for the return of the original Lando.

Williams apparently backed out of attending a sci-fi/pop culture convention due to a filming conflict, igniting rumors that he's going to be part of the next Star Wars installment.

Episode IX is now set to debut December 20, 2019.

Williams's most recent film was 2017's The Lego Batman Movie, where he voiced Harvey Dent, the lawyer who becomes supervillain Two-Face - a character he had previously played in Tim Burton's live-action Batman (1989).

Williams will be joining fellow new cast addition Keri Russell (M:I-3, The Americans), as well as Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac and John Boyega for J.J. Abrams' new sequel closer.

Rumours had recently surfaced around Lando's big return, which led me to do some digging on how the character's fared off-screen between the events of The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi.
