While others flash their rings, make aww-inducing videos, or pose a sweet kissing photo, Katharine McPhee opted for a sassier way to break the news of her and David Foster's engagement. A photo of the two looking at the ring was published on TMZ, while McPhee's wrote in an Instagram post that Foster proposed while on top of a mountain in Anacapri, near Naples. "What did I miss?" But it seems that the Foster girls have accepted their new, Broadway star step-mom.

Katharine, 34, revealed that 68-year-old David popped the question while the pair were on holiday in Italy recently.

Katharine's rep, Leslie Sloan, confirmed the engagement.

Foster and McPhee have been dating since September 2017, spotted packing on the PDA in Paris in December 2017.

Asked about the relationship rumors, McPhee previously told PEOPLE that she had "zero desire" to address them. "And in the end he spared me", she joked. She's awesome. My dad is kind of a hopeless romantic, and Katherine's awesome. "We just want someone that's going to treat him well and that cares about him, and I think he's with someone right now that really does". "And if he's happy, we're happy".

McPhee has been sharing several shots from the trip, including a photo of herself sitting on a boat, leaning towards the camera as a dog lounged behind her, the Italian flag visible on the back of the craft. "He's really a special person in my life".
