'YES WE KAN' - Nwankwo Kanu confident Nigeria can shock Argentina

Super Eagles' Coach Gernot Rohr has described Nigeria's last Group D match against Argentina as akin to the World Cup final, which his team must win. Lionel Messi attends a training session.

Argentina's forward Lionel Messi (C) practices during a training session at the team's base camp in Bronnitsy, on June 23, 2018, during Russian Federation 2018 World Cup football tournament.

"We played against them in a friendly but there was no Messi when we beat them 4-2 in Krasnodar". The South American side submitted to a 1-1 draw to a hard-working Iceland team while succumbed to a 3-0 humiliation at the hands of a high-flying Croatia.

In the group's other tie, Argentina and Nigeria will battle it out in what will be - barring an Iceland win - a "winner takes all" game.

Ahmed Musa's classy brace in the Super Eagles' 2-0 defeat of World Cup debutants Iceland in Volgograd on Friday gave a below-par Lionel Messi-led La Albiceleste, who were on the verge of exit from Russian Federation 2018, a lifeline. We played against them without Messi.

The Barcelona forward has looked stressed and miserable in both games, been largely crowded off the ball and missed a penalty against Iceland while he was anonymous versus Croatia.

Although their flaws were regularly highlighted in the build-up to this World Cup, few suspected Argentina to fall so far by the wayside in their opening games.

Giusti said: "The players will decide the team, that's a fact".

Coach Jorge Sampaoli was roundly criticised for his approach against Croatia, sparking rumours the 58-year-old would be sacked during the tournament.
