Kate Spade New York Donates $1 Million To Mental Health Organizations

Spade's death shocked many in the fashion community, as well as women around the world who wore her name on their handbags for years, and shed a blinding light on the indiscriminate nature of suicide and depression.

She founded the company with her husband Andy Spade in 1993 and opened the company's first retail store in NY three years later. On top of the $250,000 donation, they will match any donation made on behalf of the Kate Spade New York Foundation from June 20 to June 29.

Kate Spade New York CEO Anna Bakst said in a statement that she wants to celebrate her company's founder by "carrying on her legacy".

The late fashion designer's company is donating a large amount to organizations that help to prevent suicide and raise awareness of mental health issues. "We'll match your donations, too".

She leaves behind her husband, Andy Spade, and their 13-year-old daughter.
