Raccoon scales Minnesota office tower, leaving public in suspense

As the USA slept, a small raccoon who first captured the attention of Minnesota, and then the world, did something remarkable.

Minnesota got its very own friendly neighborhood Spider-Raccoon Tuesday - and Twitter can't look away. A maintenance crew tried to offer it an escape route, but the creature - that likely hasn't had water or food for two days - fled to a second building and finally to the UBS skyscraper.

If we care enough about this little rabid raccoon downtown St. Paul, maybe the window-washers could get up there.

Not prepared to take a hint, it headed to the neighboring UBS tower - one of the tallest buildings in the city. He started climbing. And he's now on the 22nd floor.

Yes, because this is 2018 there was a Twitter stream dedicated to a racoon who climbed the building and people were actually watching it.

The hashtag #mprraccoon began to trend, attracting celebrity followers.

At the 23rd floor, it stopped for a nap, allowing time for more photos.

There is not a whole lot that St. Paul Animal Control can do because a rescue mission would be too risky for both the raccoon and the workers.

"We're hoping the raccoon goes to the top of the building so we can help it out of its predicament", a spokesperson for the St. Paul Department of Safety and Inspection said, according to WCCO.
