‘There’s a special place in hell’ for Trudeau, White House adviser says

US President Donald Trump said the recent G7 spat-dominated meeting in Canada was "good", but in the same breath warned the host country would pay for the comments of its prime minister.

In the wake of Trump and his aides' comments, many domestic and foreign leaders came to Trudeau's defense.

According to one senior European diplomat, "The whole thing doesn't make sense".

Listen above to hear what kind of impact these retaliatory tariffs might have on the US, why George says the tariffs will "hurt both sides", and how the worldwide bridge between MI and Canada fits into the countries' trad relationship. Mulroney began working with Trudeau past year.

"Justin has agreed to cut all tariffs, all trade barriers between Canada and the United States, so I'm very happy", Trump told reporters.

"Canadians are polite, we're reasonable, but we also will not be pushed around", said Trudeau.

Tensions between Canada and US leaders ran high even before the weekend's G7 summit that was held primarily in Charlevoix, Que.

Things got worse for trade between the US and Canada as our neighbors to the north announced retaliatory tariffs in response to the Trump administration's tariffs on steel and aluminum from Canada and other USA allies.

He also suggested he is again studying possible tariffs on automobiles imported from Canada, a move which would have a much more substantial hit on both economies.

The fallout from the weekend G7 summit only seems to be gaining momentum as Donald Trump continued to vent on Twitter Monday morning about trade and tariffs, saying "fair trade is now to be called fool trade if it's not reciprocal". The agenda for this year's meeting revolves around equality, women empowerment, working on climate change and most importantly Investing in growth that works for everyone [economically], well it worked for everyone other than President Trump.

But the criticism left a former Canadian prime minister, Stephen Harper, stumped.

"Canadians.stood shoulder to shoulder with American soldiers in far-off lands in conflicts from the First World War onward", he said. She said: 'This was a hard summit, with at times some very candid discussions.

"We're being taken advantage of on trade", Trump said.

"What I saw Prime Minister Trudeau say was, I thought, fairly benign and certainly didn't warrant any attack". And what did Trudeau do as soon as the plane took off from Canadian airspace?

Senior officials of the Trump administration piled on the smears.

The White House is quietly trying to fix the American government's fractured relationship with Canada as President Donald Trump is in Singapore to meet with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, Politico reported Monday.
