Google says the Play Movies & TV platform doesn't require a partner app to be linked for it to work.
Although you could technically access the Assistant prior to this update by using the call button, this now allows for faster responses, notifications can be read back to you, and if you've got the Assistant app installed on an iOS device, that works, too. Google Home supports a variety of voice commands, including ones for turning on shows or specific episodes, pausing/playing and stopping, scrubbing through a video, turning on subtitles, switching languages, and more. Sony was on the list, but the company did one better than many of its competitors: beside launching new headphones and headsets with Assistant, it promised an update for some of its existing products that would bring them the same feature.
Android Police reported on Thursday that Sony is bringing Assistant support to the WH-1000XM2 and WI-1000X models. The company in its official statement said, "We apologise for the inconvenience, but the release of this software update has been delayed. We are working on the issue and will release the update as soon as possible". The WH-1000XM2 are over-ear headphones while the WI-1000X are wireless in-ear headphones. Also worth mentioning is that the attempts were made using the Google Home Mini as well as the Google Assistant-powered Sony smart speaker. To enable this feature, once the firmware is updated, all you need to do is to enable the "Google Assistant" option in the "Change function of [NC/AMBIENT] button" menu. So there are number of headsets that are expected to be updated in coming days.
