Sergio Aguero says he will probably never play alongside close friend Lionel Messi at club level as he is staying at Manchester City and his compatriot will never leave Barcelona. Aguero Speaking in an interview with TyC Sports after City boss, who signed a two-year contract extension to keep him in charge at the Etihad Stadium until 2021 on Thursday.
"Sincerely, before there was that possibility", Aguero said.
But Aguero said: "I think it's impossible".
The 29-year-old finished an injury-curtailed campaign with 30 goals in all competitions and back in position as Guardiola's first-choice striker. "Leo eventually will stay there and I'll end up staying with City".
Replacing him with someone of similar calibre would be far from easy, even for a club of City's resources, but it bodes well that Aguero is confident of staying put.
Aguero is set to be in the Argentina World Cup squad after recovering from a knee problem, having had surgery following City's Champions League exit to Liverpool.
"I said I preferred to do surgery because I could have missed the World Cup".
"It is the first time in five years that I can bend my knee without feeling pain", he stated. "I tried to make an effort to play in the Champions League [quarter-final defeat against Liverpool]", he said.
"Pep supported me a lot".
"For example, for the last five years I couldn't flex my knee all the way and now I can do it".
