Tiger Woods commits to The Memorial Tournament

The US Open will be played June 14-17 at Shinnecock Hills in Southampton, New York.

Before The Memorial gets underway, Woods will play in the May 30 pro-am event with former National Football League quarterback Peyton Manning.

The announcement was made via The Memorial's official Twitter page on Wednesday.

Woods finished strongly at The Players Championship in Ponte Vedra Beach last weekend, posting a seven-under 65 in the third round before closing with a three-under 69 to finish seven shots adrift of tournament victor Webb Simpson.

The tournament, which runs from May 31 to June 3, features another strong field.

Woods is eager to make it number six as he continues his hunt for a victory since his return to action. Jason Dufner is the defending champ.

Tiger Woods entered The Memorial, where he is a five-time champion and will open the event as playing partner to a Super Bowl champ.

Woods, 42, who is coming off a tie for 11th at the Players Championship on Sunday, has won the Memorial five times, most recently in 2012. Tiger has overcome a rash of back surgeries to rank as a top-12 finisher in four PGA Tour events in 2018.

"I have been so impressed with Tiger during his comeback, and as I said after last weekend, I think he is on the verge of winning for the first time in several years", Memorial tournament founder and host Jack Nicklaus said in a statement.

"This weekend was extremely positive", Woods said after the Players.
