U.S. auto major Ford India on Monday introduced two new variants of its compact SUV EcoSport as it seeks to re-assert its position in the segment in the wake of increasing competition with the launch of Tata's Nexon.
While the petrol version of the Signature edition, which comes with sunroof, is priced at Rs 10.40 lakh, the diesel variant is tagged at Rs 10.99 lakh.
The 1.0-litre engine was available on the EcoSport pre-facelift.
The New EcoSport S stands out with its stunning bold, black front grille and with HID headlamps that offer better visibility even in low light conditions.
Ford India recently launched two new editions of the EcoSport which are the S and the Signature. The EcoSport S also marks the return of the award-winning 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine - absent since the arrival of the facelifted version in November a year ago. Customers can choose to buy the EcoSport Signature Edition as an option pack on the Titanium variant.
In a bid to appeal visually, the EcoSport Signature Edition features differently designed 17-inch alloy wheels, a unique Anodised Blue exterior paint shade, special "Signature" badging and all-black interiors with contrasting blue stitching. The Signature Edition gets cosmetic updates like chrome surround on the grill, diamond cut alloy wheels, graphics around the fog-lamps, rear spoiler and roof rails. The EcoBoost is claimed to return a fuel economy of 18.1 kmpl and has 12% lower Carbon dioxide emissions than regular four-cylinder engines according to Ford. Deliveries are slated to start from today itself as many Ford dealers have already received the new variants of the compact SUV. Both the engines are mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox.
The new variant also gets smoked High-intensity discharge (HD) headlamps as well as fog lamp bezels.
Launched in 2013, the EcoSport was India's first compact Sports Utility Vehicle-classified as those that have a length less than 4 metres, and had an unchallenged run in the market till India's auto market leader Maruti Suzuki launched the Vitara Brezza in 2016. The petrol engine is a 1.0L EcoBoost engine tuned to maked 125 PS of maximum power with peak torque of 170 Nm that enhances the fun-to-drive quotient of the SUV.
The EcoSport S variant receives an eight-inch touchscreen (capacitive) infotainment system with the latest SYNC3 system with voice recognition, mobile connectivity compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The interiors of the compact SUV will continue the dual-tone theme seen outside, with elements on the centre console, doors and seats getting a contrasting finish.
