The Indian e-com giant hosted its BigOnFlipkart event in partnership with Asus, where it has announced that Asus will launch the Zenfone Max Pro, a new mid-range smartphone with Snapdragon 636 in India on April 23. Asus informed that they will work with Flipkart to use their insights in Indian market to design their products. Not a lot is known about its hardware for now.
Asus is all set to launch a new Zenfone Max Pro smartphone in India on April 23 which will be exclusive to Flipkart.
In what could be the most insignificant and weird event to have been witnessed, the two companies only revealed that the Zenfone Max Pro will be launched on April 23rd in India, as part of a global launch.
The e-commerce player, which competes with the Seattle-based Amazon, says one out of four mobile phones bought in India were from Flipkart previous year.
Asus and Flipkart had earlier partnered in 2014 for selling the first-generation ZenFone.
Flipkart wants to capture 40 per cent market share of online mobile sales by 2020 as part of its "Mobiles 40 by 20" vision, revealed Ajay Veer Yadav, VP Smartphone, Flipkart.
Investors in the Bengaluru-based company, including New York-based investment firm Tiger Global Management, South African media conglomerate Naspers, venture capital firm Accel and China's Tencent Holdings, have agreed to sell their stakes to Walmart.
Commenting on the partnership, Asus CEO Jerry Shen said the company sees tremendous opportunity in creating products and services that address India's market needs. "With this partnership with Asus, we're multiplying those efforts by collaborating to leverage our individual strengths - data-driven research & insights, and technological prowess - to build smartphones truly customised for India", Flipkart CEO Kalyan Krishnamurthy said.
Well, ASUS and Flipkart have signed an exclusive partnership for a period of three years, and as a part of this partnership, the companies plan to bring in "innovative smartphones in every price range" for Indian consumers. "With Flipkart's partnership, we aim to gain more insights about Indian consumers' needs which can help us develop even more suitable products for the Indian market".
