Borussia Dortmund striker Michy Batshuayi was carried off on a stretcher with a possible ankle injury as they lost the Ruhr valley derby to Champions League rivals Schalke.
Schalke looked more likely to score in the first half, though Dortmund's Marco Reus went closest when he drew a good save from Ralf Faehrmann with a free kick.
With four games to play, qualification for next season's Champions League is by no means a given, and Reus revealed that only the end goal - qualifying for the competition - and not the means is what counts now.
Dortmund boss Peter Stoger said in his post-match press conference: "We hope that it is not so bad, but we have to wait for the exact investigation". Dortmund is four points behind Schalke and four ahead of Leipzig, held to a 1-1 draw at Werder Bremen in the late game.
Konoplyanka broke the deadlock just five minutes after the restart as he latched onto Daniel Caligiuri's pass in behind the defence and slotted past Burki. Marco Pjaca tipped the ball to Caligiuri, who stopped it for Naldo.
The hosts threatened again moments later as Amine Harit lined up a shot from distance that drifted wide of the right post, while Guido Burgstaller dragged an effort to the left of the target on 13 minutes.
Batshuayi has scored seven goals for Borussia Dortmund in the league since his loan move from Chelsea in January.
