Despite the clientele, the trailer tells us Hotel Artemis has a few rules, which include: no fighting and killing other patients, no disrespect towards the staff, no weapons, and the strangely normal "No outside food and drink". Instead of offering a comfy bed, a good night's sleep, and a mediocre breakfast served buffet-style like its name would suggest, Hotel Artemis stitches up delinquents in peace and privacy.
Comparisons to John Wick will no doubt be made here, as the setup of Hotel Artemis feels quite similar to the network of hotels that populate the John Wick universe. Hotel Artemis will serve as quirky counter-programming to the star studded Ocean's Eleven franchise spinoff Ocean's 8 during its opening weekend at the domestic box office later this year.
Sterling K. Brown finally gets his due as the lead in a blockbuster film, playing a semi-retired criminal who gets pulled back in to the business for one! Brown, Jeff Goldblum, Dave Bautista, Sofia Boutella, Brian Tyree Henry, Charlie Day, Zachary Quinto and Jenny Slate are among the stars in Drew Pearce's directorial debut.
The film features Foster as a nurse in a members-only hospital for criminals in near-future Los Angeles. It sounds like it could be the plot of a dark graphic novel from Vertigo, Dark Horse, or Image, but it's actually a totally original idea from writer-director Drew Pearce (co-writer on Iron Man 3 and writer-director of Marvel One-Shot: All Hail the King).
Hotel Artemis is set for release on June 8th.
