Ex-FBI Director Komi should be judged

President Trump called former FBI Director James Comey an, "untruthful slime ball" on Twitter.

A Higher Loyalty: Truth, Lies and Leadership goes on sale in Australia on April 24. The Associated Press purchased a copy this week. According to The Washington Post, in the book, Comey "describes Trump as a congenital liar and unethical leader, devoid of human emotion and driven by personal ego".

Comey, who was sacked by Trump a year ago, told ABC that a desire to ensure Clinton's victory was seen as legitimate played a role in his decision to announce the bureau would reopen the investigation, made 11 days before the election.

Trump even threatened Comey with jail time.

Trump appeared less concerned by the attack, Comey said, than by how it could undermine his victory.

In his memoir, Comey paints a devastating portrait of a president who built "a cocoon of alternative reality that he was busily wrapping around all of us".

The "dossier", a 35-page document containing raw intelligence complied by former British intelligence agent Christopher Steele, includes a detailed and graphic account of the alleged encounter and even raises the possibility that it could have been captured on video.

The White House denies that the choice had any connection to the FBI investigation and says Trump wanted to fire Comey from his first day as President.

But much worse is the book's most stunning revelation, which is about Comey, not Mr Trump.

The interviews are Comey's first public comments since he testified before the Senate Intelligence Committee last June, when he accused Trump of firing him to undermine the FBI's Russian Federation investigation.

The president fired Comey last May while his agency was investigating potential collusion between Trump's campaign and Russian Federation in the 2016 USA election in a move that led the Justice Department to appoint Special Counsel Robert Mueller to take over a probe that has hung over his presidency.

Todd also asked Ryan if he agreed with Trump's description of Comey as a "slimeball". The White House signed off on the plan, which is being overseen by the Republican National Committee.

"He may want me to investigate it to prove that it didn't happen", Comey recalled in the interview. I don't really know the guy.

In his morning tweets, Trump accused Comey of leaking classified intelligence and of mishandling the 2016 investigation of the private emails of former secretary of State Hillary Clinton, his election opponent.

He also reveals new details about how the government had unverified classified information that he believes could have been used to cast doubt on Attorney General Loretta Lynch's independence in the Clinton probe. So I've met him two or three times in two or three briefings.

Comey's book will be heavily scrutinized by the president's legal team looking for any inconsistencies between it and his public testimony, under oath, before Congress. Both have cast the president in an embarrassing light.

As for McCabe: He'sthe former Federal Bureau of Investigation deputy director Attorney General Jeff Sessions fired in March.

Some have compared this book to the previous release of the Michael Wolff's "Fire and Fury", [VIDEO] but as Wolff has always been known to play loose with facts, the Comey book is certain to carry more weight. Kelly has been increasingly marginalized in the White House and the president has mused to confidants about firing him.

Asked to describe that January 6, 2017 meeting two weeks before Trump took office, Comey said: "Really weird". Comey was also joined by NSA Director Mike Rogers, CIA Director John Brennan and Director of National Intelligence James Clapper.

Asked how freaky that meeting with Mr Trump was, Mr Comey said: "Very weird".
