For Christians around the world, Good Friday is an important day. Many believe that that grieved Friday has been called Good Friday because it led to the Resurrection of Jesus and his victory over death and sin.
Father Douglas K. Clark is pastor of St. Matthew Church in Statesboro.
Good Friday is observed as a day for solemn mourning.
These will be followed by Easter morning services on Sunday.
The light that Easter sheds on our dark world's turmoil reveals that death-no matter how tragic and appalling-is not really the ultimate enemy.
She continued: "These days, our communities seem to focus simply on all the negativity that flows freely without regard for humanity".
Often we do forget that God chooses things that we don't see to ideal or purify us, to unite or uplift us, in order to bring about the type of life John spoke of: "The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly" (John 10:10). A feast symbolising the last supper of Christ is held on Thursday night. And the resurrection is where the hope resides.
For me, Easter is about God communicating directly to mankind, how much He loves us and what that means in concrete, stark and practical ways. "Then on Sunday, He defeated death for us".
Many churches re-enact the Stations of the Cross, marking Jesus' journey through Jerusalem.
"We would love for students to come", Faigley said. We stay together as a family and eat meals throughout the day together.
Jenna Faigley, the office manager for Christ Lutheran Church, said the Easter brunch will be held as part of the church's annual fundraiser for its student group. There are others who compromise and say it was a Thursday.1 In Matthew 12:40, Jesus said, "For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of a huge fish, so the Son of Man will be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth".
Check your local school district's calendar to see if public schools near you are open or closed on Good Friday. "He was put to death in the body but made alive by the Spirit". Paul said in Romans 3 that the righteousness of God is through faith in Jesus Christ for all who believe, and to the Corinthians that he became sin for us so that we might become the righteousness of God.
"That is a momentous claim, certainly one worth honestly looking into".
For people who may not be interested in attending church services, there will also be an easter egg hunt at Little Fish Brewing Company, 8675 Armitage Road., on Sunday. Children 10 years and younger are invited to participate.
