Delhi: Kejriwal's top aide, a 'witness' in chief secretary assault case quits

"VK Jain has resigned from the post of advisor to the Delhi chief minister citing personal reasons and family commitment", source.

Jain was appointed to the post in September previous year days after he retired as the CEO of the Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB) which is chaired by Kejriwal, submitted his resignation to the Chief Minister's Office (CMO) with a copy to the lieutenant governor. He had earlier retired as the chief executive officer of the Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board. However, retired IAS officer VK Jain has stated that he had resigned from his post citing personal reasons and family commitments. "But, in a second statement which was recorded before a magistrate under Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC), he said he left home at around 11.30 pm from Maharani Bagh and reached the CM's residence at midnight".

Jain had not been coming to the CMO since the incident and had gone on a week-long medical leave, the sources said.

Once a close confidante of Kejriwal, relations between him and the Delhi CM strained after Jain told the Delhi Police that he saw Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLAs Amanatullah Khan and Prakash Jarwal "physically assaulting" Chief Secretary Anshu Prakash.

In one his statements, Jain said he was in the washroom at the time the incident took place but later changed his statements. They were pushing him, physically touching him and were threatening him after pressing his chin.

The prosecutor made its clarification.

Jain, 60, was appointed as advisor cum consultant to Kejriwal in September 2017.
