Insurgency: Saudi Arabia Donates $10m To Nigeria

Sheikh Ahmed El-Tayeb, the grand imam of Egypt's Al-Azhar - the world's foremost institution of Sunni Islamic learning - met with Saudi Crown prince Mohammed bin Salman in Cairo on Monday afternoon.

"The openness which Saudi Arabia is leading has influenced the Egyptian street".

Al-Jubeir provided no further details on the agreements nor on the precise agenda for the crown prince's visit.

Nigeria's Defence Minister, Retired Brigadier General Mansur Dan while receiving the team from Saudi Arabia said the fund will go a long way in helping to fight terrorism in the country. The contracts for them are among the first to be commissioned in development of NEOM.

He said both countries were seeking closer ties in sectors such as education and technology as well as security.

On Monday, Prince Mohammed began an overseas tour in Egypt that will also take in the United Kingdom and the U.S. this month.

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has donated the sum of $10million to Nigeria to aid the nation's fight against the insurgency.

President Sisi ratified the deal past year, and Egypt's top court annulled lower court rulings for and against the treaty on the eve of the crown prince's arrival.

The Saudi crown prince is in Egypt on a three-day visit that started on Sunday.

The visit "will be interpreted as proof of Saudi support for Sisi to remain as the president of Egypt", Mostafa Kamel al-Sayed, a political science professor at Cairo University, said.
