The Israeli servicemen have shot a Palestinian national at the border with Gaza Strip amid the escalation of tensions, Ashraf al-Kidra, the representative of the Gaza medical services told Sputnik on Saturday. He was rushed to hospital where his condition deteriorated and he died due to his wounds late afternoon.
Eyewitnesses quoted in Palestinian reports said the farmer was alone and there were no clashes in the area when he was shot by soldiers stationed at an observation post. The farmer was only identified as being from the Abu Jame family.
A spokeswoman for the Israeli army said the boat "deviated from the designated fishing zone in the northern Gaza Strip".
He said the Palestinian ministry was not aware of the composition of the Israeli chemicals being sprayed on Palestinian lands.
Israel's military restricts Palestinians inside the Hamas-controlled territory from approaching the border, where violence frequently flares up.
The move angered Palestinians who consider the east of the city as the capital of their future state.
UN Middle East peace envoy Nickolay Mladenov has warned that Gaza - which also suffers from water and power cuts, unemployment and poverty - was on the verge of "full collapse".
