Real Madrid overcame the absence of Cristiano Ronaldo and other regular starters Wednesday, coming from behind to defeat Leganes 3-1 Wednesday in a Spanish league match postponed from previous year.
However, Real have 48 points from 24 games and trail leaders Barcelona 14 points.
Leganes impressively got itself back on the front foot during the early stages of the second half - Asier Garitano's double switch, sending on Ruben Perez and Martin Mantovani in place of Dimitrios Siovas and Gerard Gumbau, rewarded with a spirited showing.
"We will keep trying to move up, it's important to keep our momentum", Zidane said.
"In the last matches we scored 23 goals and now three more", Zidane added.
Madrid has won four in a row, including 3-1 against Paris Saint-Germain in the last 16 of the Champions League last week.
Vazquez also did well in that match and was a handed a start for Wednesday's match at Leganes (a fixture rearranged from December when Madrid were away at the Club World Cup) as Bale began the night on the bench.
Only in its second season in the first division, Leganes had a promising start to the campaign but has struggled recently. We would like him to score.
However, the visitors were behind within six minutes when they failed to deal with Javier Eraso's corner and although goalkeeper Kiko Casilla repelled Bustinza's initial effort, the defender dived in bravely to block Theo's attempted clearance with his head and the ball flew into the net.
Then the visiting side scored a goal of absolute class to take the lead in the 27th minute with impressive one-touch passing ending with Brazilian midfielder Casemiro slotting home from close range.
It took Real until the 90th minute to make sure of the victory, though, with Ramos scoring from the penalty spot after Mateo Kovacic had been fouled.
