Fortunately the chief minister was unhurt as one shoe fell on the stage while the other one was caught by the personal security of the chief minister. Soon after, the BJD supremo was whisked away from the spot.
The BJD accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of orchestrating the attack.
The youth who hurled the slippers was identified as Karthik Meher; a BJP flag and an I-card recovered from his person.
Speaking to mediapersons, BJD MP Pinaki Misra said the CEC has taken the shoe attack on the Chief Minister seriously; and a report has been sought from the State Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) in the connection.
However, the BJP refuted the allegation.
In a video captured during the incident, the Chief Minister was seen posing with a group of men for clicking pictures when suddenly the woman started throwing eggs targetting him. "This is a peaceful demonstration against the violence act of BJP". He even added that the ruling party is cooking up the story all by themselves, the attacker was no way connected to any political party. State BJP presaident Basant Panda and BJP MLA Pradeep Purohit denied the youth as BJP worker.
