Freeman was suspended for four games during the 2016 season for violating the NFL's policy on performance-enhancing drugs. Then came news a few weeks later that another test came up positive for performance enhancers, which handed Freeman a ten-game suspension from the league.
Freeman got his shot with the Colts after three strong seasons with the Saskatchewan Roughriders. I don't know my future but a big thanks to the Bears and the National Football League, if I would have used their programs and services earlier than I did I wouldn't be in this situation.
Freeman was scheduled to earn $3.5 million in 2018, but none of it was guaranteed. Kwiatkoski projects to start at inside linebacker alongside veteran Danny Trevathan. Christian Jones, who emerged last season in Freeman's absence, could be a contender to step into a more prominent role, but he's a free agent.
Per ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Bears have released Freeman after he spent two seasons with the team.
