Trump lawyer arranged porn star payment for her silence in October 2016

Donald Trump's lawyer arranged a six-figure payment to a former adult-film star one month before the 2016 election to keep her quiet about an alleged sexual encounter with Trump a decade ago.

The Wall Street Journal reported on Friday that Trump attorney Michael Cohen arranged for the payment of $130,000 to Stephanie Clifford as part of a nondisclosure agreement.

The Journal reported that Clifford, whose stage name was Stormy Daniels, first made Trump's acquaintance at a July 2006 celebrity golf tournament on the shore of Lake Tahoe, a year after the former married Melania Trump.

Cohen issued a response, telling the WSJ: "President Trump once again vehemently denies any such occurrence as has Ms. Daniels".

The Smoking Gun said Trump was among an-80 player field that included star athletes like Aaron Rodgers and Drew Brees, as well as entertainers such as Ray Romano and Cheech Marin.

"This is now the second time that you are raising outlandish allegations against my client", Cohen added.

Clifford herself hasn't responded to the Journal's request for comment.

Cohen also accused the Journal of perpetuating "a false narrative for over a year".

The Journal previously reported that Clifford, 38 years old, had been in talks with ABC's "Good Morning America" in the fall of 2016 about an appearance to discuss Trump, according to people familiar with the matter.

"'Rumors that I have received hush money from Donald Trump are completely false, ' the statement said".

The Trump campaign denied any affair and American Media Inc, which owns the Enquirer, said: "AMI has not paid people to kill damaging stories about Mr Trump".

A report just came out that could potentially be damaging to the Trump administration. The payment was reportedly received through her lawyer's client-trust account.

While the question of whether or not Trump had a consensual affair with an adult film actress may be juicy gossip, it isn't almost as pressing as whether Clifford was paid by top Trump lawyers to keep quiet (Clifford had reportedly previously discussed revealing her relationship on ABC's Good Morning America.) What's more, the reports fit into a larger patter of the president denying alleged encounters - both consensual and non-consensual - and going as far as to smear those women and call them liars.

The payment appears to have been made in the final stretch of the campaign, around the same time that a recording of Trump making vulgar comments about women while filming a segment for "Access Hollywood" surfaced, in a report by The Washington Post roughly a month before the presidential election. Mr. Cohen lashed at the Journal for releasing the report in his statement. "I spoke out because it was the right thing to do". The White House dismisses Drake's claim as "totally false and ridiculous".
