Former FedExCup champion Rory McIlroy has revealed he has a heart irregularity that he must monitor throughout his career.
A four-time major victor, McIlroy claimed the most recent of those at the 2014 US PGA Championship.
McIlroy, 28, who was winless during an injury-plagued season last year, said he will have to undergo an echo cardiogram every six months and then an MRI scan every year.
"They told me that's the reason that I have this thickening of my left ventricle and there's a bit of scar tissue. For now, I just need to stay on top of it and have to stay fit", the Northern Irishman told the newspaper. "Hey, I was planning on doing that anyway". Let's just say that between now and when I signed off past year, I feel way more optimistic, focused, motivated, purposeful.
"I shouldn't have played the US Open", McIlroy said.
Rory McIlroy isn't letting a newly disclosed heart condition derail his 2018 goals: winning more majors, and reclaiming the world no. 1 ranking. I don't fear any of them.
McIlroy missed extensive time last season due to the rib injury and will return from a almost four-month break next week at the Abu Dhabi Championship.
"I know that I'm on track to where I want to be". "Let's just say that between now and when I signed off previous year, I feel way more optimistic, focused, motivated, purposeful".
"Yesterday, I did an interview with the Daily Telegraph where I spoke about a range of topics regarding the last three months of my life", McIlroy wrote. I don't feel I need to compare myself to anyone else, because I know what I can do.
The purchaser could get a golf prize from McIlroy, however, as the soda vending machine he was given after winning the 2016 Tour Championship is featured in one of the rooms.
