The team behind the film franchise will executive produce, including John Wick star Keanu Reeves, along with Thunder Road Pictures' Basil Iwanyk (the John Wick film franchise, The Town, Sicario), Chad Stahelski (John Wick co-director and John Wick: Chapter 2 director), John Wick franchise screenwriter Derek Kolstad, along with Collins and David Leitch (John Wick co-director, Deadpool 2). Deadline reports that show producers say The Continental will be "set in a hyper-real version of Los Angeles", and will maintain "the urgency of the action along with the dry humor from the John Wick movies". I think the world is very vast, and everything I've heard from it is very positive. In an age of cinematic universes where franchises and IPs shine brightest, the resurgence of Keanu Reeves' career in John Wick was a welcomed entry in theaters. Those ideas had already given rise to the concept of a John Wick TV show, but now the project has gotten a formal go-ahead.
The Continental will focus on the hotel for assassins from the first two John Wick films. The show will focus on the unusual events that occur inside the hotel-for-assassins, The Continental, according to Deadline.
"The Continental", from writer and executive producer Chris Collins, includes Reeves as an executive producer, Starz execs said at the Television Critics Association press tour on Friday. Stahelski will direct the premiere of The Continental, should the script move forward. A third feature film, "John Wick: Chapter 3", is due for release in 2019.
"This series is truly unlike anything else on TV", pledged Starz President & CEO Chris Albrecht.
