In Florida, there were nearly 32,200 people who experienced homelessness a year ago, a decline of 4 percent. That includes a focus on Housing First, which moves people quickly from homelessness into permanent housing, rather than using transitional housing as an intermediate step.

According to a HUD report, homelessness declined in MA in 2017 compared to 2016. "Rapid rehousing ensures that homelessness is a brief, rare and non-recurring event for individuals and families". On the other hand, the report said, veteran homelessness decreased 4.1 percent and chronic homelessness decreased by 35.9 percent.
The total awards in the Continuum of Care program is the most ever, though only slightly above collective grants of more than $1.9 billion in the last few years. The agency's 2017 annual report to Congress found that 553,742 people experienced homelessness on a single night during the year, an increase of 0.7 percent since 2016. They will report these one-night "point-in-time counts" later in the year to establish HUD's 2018 national homeless estimate.
