Houston police say man had guns, ammunition in downtown hotel room

A man has been arrested on multiple charges after police located a small arsenal of guns on the top floor of the Hyatt Regency on Louisiana Street in downtown Houston, according to NBC affiliate KPRC.

Houston police were called to the hotel around 1:30 a.m. when the man, who has not been identified, became intoxicated at the bar and "balligerent", Lt. Gordon Macintosh said.

They'd initially tried to have the man go back to his room, the newspaper reported.

The suspect was being captured for trespassing when an officer found ammo in his inn room, KHOU reports. Officers arrived on the scene and shortly after found a number of weapons in his hotel room.

The man was charged with unlawfully carrying a weapon as well as the original charge for trespassing. Investigators also searched his vehicle where they found more weapons. Hotel staff called police after he refused to leave the bar, and officers only happened to enter his room to help him gather his things. The hotel's annual party is one of the city's largest New Year's Eve celebrations.
