The Associated Press reported that the evacuation orders affected around 200,000 people and that almost 200 homes had already been destroyed.
According to the real estate news site Curbed, Murdoch's home was valued at close to $30 million when he purchased it.
"From initial reports, we're hearing it belongs to Rupert Murdoch".
Moraga Vineyards does fall within the evacuated area.
"We believe the winery and house are still intact".
Firefighters scrambled Wednesday afternoon to make progress against the Skirball fire burning in Bel-Air before the return of strong winds that could blow the fire across the 405 Freeway.
The situation at Moraga Bel Air is very fluid at the moment. The estate is nearly 16 acres and includes a main residence that's almost 8,000 square feet.
That fire has already claimed 150 structures but the incident commander, Todd Derum, told the Associated Press that he thinks hundreds of homes have likely been destroyed.
Although no casualties have been reported, the fires have forced mass evacuations, cancellation of classes at dozens of schools and resulted in the loss of power at more than 250,000 homes in Ventura County.
Roxanne Langer at Moraga Estate said a temperature-controlled wine storage shed burned after the fire erupted before dawn Wednesday but was unclear how much wine was lost. The fire is now being fought by hundreds of firefighters, Los Angeles Daily News reports, and at least four homes have already been destroyed.
